It reduces the nasty stuff that comes out of the tailpipe. On the 6.7 the intake comes from the outside instead of the exhaust manifold on a 6.4. What happens is it passes through the EGR valve first so that the EGR valve is on the hot end which keeps the EGR valve on a 6.7 clean.
